Chapter Sixteen

Sunlight streamed through the room adding a glow to the world. Paige smiled as she stretched, the night before was incredible. A blush worked its way up her cheeks as she thought of the several times Cal reached for her showing her the carnal delights of being bonded.

“Hi,” she said, peeking up at him.

“Hi.”

He reached over and kissed her drawing her into his arms.

“How do you feel?”

“A little sore, but other than that, fine.”

“You could always soak in the tub, or,” his eyes twinkled, “we could soak.”

Reaching up she ran her hand through his hair. She was fast falling in love with it. The silk soft feel of it was something both he and his Matra shared. The feel of it seemed to sensitize her skin.

“Sounds good to me.” She reached in to touch his chest, but he jerked away from her to stand.

“Cal?” What could have caused him to have that reaction?

“Something’s happened to Vick.”

“What? How do you know?” How could something have happened to him?

She looked at the sun streaming through the window, it couldn’t be more than nine in the morning. Was he old enough for school? He should be there or home.

“Cal?”

“Victor and Selma are at the school, no one can find him.”

“How do you know?”

She jumped up from the bed. They would have to find him. She would help search or man the door downstairs in case he wandered home.

“Victor and I are connected, he’s telling me what’s going on.”

It didn’t take her much time to get ready, all she could see was Vick’s innocent little face before her. Would the Sudir have gone after Vick? Of course he would, but why now. Had he just come to this town, maybe just discovered Vick?

“Do you think the Sudir has him?” she asked Cal as they rushed out the front door.

She got into the SUV that was parked on the street.

“It’s a possibility. One we have to consider. If the Sudir was able to take him then he was unprotected. Vick knows better.”

The ride to the school was fast and silent, each of them lost in their own thoughts.

Paige prepared to slide out of the high SUV when she saw a male walking up the street towards them. He was stunningly beautiful, but the air of danger that surrounded him shrouded the beauty making her heart beat fast. She tried to clamp down in her suddenly clammy palms as the desire to run to Cal and hide behind him shivered down her spine.

“That’s Rylan. He has that effect on humans.”

Cal walked around the vehicle to take Paige by the waist lifting her out of the SUV.

“Rylan,” Cal called in greeting.

“Cal, I heard you were bonded.”

“Rylan, meet my bonded. Paige, meet Rylan. He is a friend.”

“I am a friend who used to be as close as a brother, but things change.”

“Only because you changed them,” Cal countered back.

“Vick, we should go inside,” Paige uttered feeling the tension between the two males.

Rylan turned to walk towards the entrance of the school.
